The Spanish Moon Styled Shoot took place on October 3rd, after 2 months of design and planning.
What is a styled shoot you ask? At it's core it is a collaboration between creatives and other event professionals. Through this collaboration, an idea or mood board comes to life in the most glorious way!
I believe with everything in me that I am meant to bring people together to create beautiful things. This is why I am involved several (very well chosen) community groups, two which I created. Wildwood Creative Collective is one of these. Through Wildwood Creative Collective I am able to bring together wedding vendors, venues, planners and models to create makeshift weddings. Once I create a style board with the ideas for the shoot, I give each participant a few guidelines to make sure the Shoot will look a certain way- after this they are given free range as to what they create! This is how Spanish Moon unfolded.
This day was truly a collaboration of professionals. I had so much help. I want to give a special shout out to Carrie Nee the owner of the venue, my dear friend Kyla with Kyla Grace Photography and Jenni Summer with Jenni Summer Studios. These ladies helped me set up and take down the decor, Jenni and Kyla were also the other photographers present and helped me capture some amazingness! Their images gave me a different perspective on my vision and I am so lucky to have shared this day with them. Please know that this was a complete team effort and I could not have done it without everyone I am about to name.
Let me break down how this one came to life!
It all started with the venue, Casa Coyote Event Center. Earlier this year I had reached out to the owner Carrie to do mentor session on her property. The time and date didn't line up properly...a few months later Carrie reached out to me to see if I was still interested in photographing the venue. I jumped at the opportunity- I mean who wouldn't! Casa Coyote was created by the Nee family as their oasis in the plains of Colorado. This is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding, equipped with adobe buildings for the bride and groom to get ready in, a gorgeous ceremony area, an adorable cantina next to a fire pit, a covered reception area and a dance floor nestled in between pines! This venue is my Southwestern adobe dream venue, to be honest, this is where I wish I had been married 3 years ago! From this wish, I started thinking about how I would style my wedding if it were to take place here and in the month of October (hello harvest festivals, fall and Halloween)! BAM there it was, a Spanish inspired wedding set in the Southwest with darker colors and all the moody fall vibes. I wanted something dark but not "Halloween." I also wanted this shoot to take place in the late afternoon and evening time so we could capture the space in the night and play with flash photography. I also wanted to play with a smoke bomb- and I sooo did not regret this decision.
I then reached out to Samantha Mathews with Matthews Weddings & Events to help me find the vendors and get to planning! Samantha is an expert wedding and event planner and a dear friend of mine. I did not have to think twice about who to ask to help me bring my design to life!
We quickly found the vendors to bring this all come to life!
Chelsea Busa with Cakes Elevated looked at my style board cake and completely surpassed what I could ever have imagined! She brought in blood pears, which she hand dyed and painted to create the most beautiful cake I have ever seen!!!! Chelsea also stayed for the entire shoot to help me set up.
Delaney Kochan with Delaney Darling made my floral dreams come true! She incorporated rich jewel tones and darker greens to bring to life a wild looking centerpiece and matching bouquets for the ladies!
Patty Miller with A Love Tale Rentals was a life savor! She came in at the last minute to help me find unique pieces, including the silver sheep skin rug and beautiful amber colored glassware.
Bree with Knotty Mess knocked the macrame ceremony piece out of the park. The attention to detail and beauty she created with that piece (which is still sitting in my house and needs returning) is amazing! Truly a one of a kind piece!
Nicole Presley, my go to calligrapher, blew me away again with the invite suite that perfectly matched my vision! I even hand made a style board after receiving these beauties in the mail to make everything POP! This woman is so impressive!
I will speak a little later about the look for the bridal party and how that came to life and who was involved!
The Cake (of my dreams)
All in the Details!
Lets talk fashion, hair and makeup!
This is always such a fun part! When coming up with the style board I kept going back to a classic Spanish look for the ladies with a little Frida vibe!
I knew i wanted their hair up and rich red roses somehow tied into the look. For make up I wanted clean with rich dark lips!
Now let me brag in our Hair and Makeup team: Eleposh . These ladies are pure artists. They took my vision and created something even more beautiful. They are not only professional but so beyond talented. Jessica and Tonya, executed the look so perfectly that I am still in complete awe. These two ladies also stayed during the shoot- Jessica even ran through a field holding a smoke bomb to help us get the perfect shot!
For the women's attire I knew I needed lace, but not something that would overwhelm the model. I also wanted something unique for the bridesmaids and the dudes in all black! I walked in to Something New Boutique with this small amount of requirements. The ladies who work there took the time to go through sooo many dresses with me and after about 30mins, a very long FaceTime call with Samantha we had picked this gorgeous lace dress with scalloped lace details and a very simple veil which would not take away from the beauty of the dress or model. My consultant came up with the idea of a beaded black two piece for the bridesmaid, which I took forever to decide on. The guys were easy! I wanted black on black on black...so they showed me the very handsome Micheal Kors suits for our guys. Bada Bing Bada Boom! We had attire people!! Whoop!!!
Now, this does not end here- we need to speak about the amazing models who personified my vision!
Lindsey is a local Colorado Springs photographer and the most perfectly beautiful human to pull off my vision for the bridal look. She just happens to be married to an equally beautiful man, Yury, who was the best groom I could have hoped for! These two made all my dreams for the shoot come true on this day!
Our bridesmaid and groomsman are the sweetest people. Heather and Tristan are not only a gorgeous real life couple but man can these two model! It is always so easy to work with them and you can feel the love they share.
